SEATTLE — A Seattle hospital has been denied full accreditation by the nonprofit group that accredits U.S. hospitals after the group found 29 areas where the hospital is out of compliance.

The Seattle Times reports the group known as the Joint Commission made an unannounced inspection visit to the hospital in May.

The group inspects 21,000 hospitals and programs in the United States. The issues found in May range from conducting fire drills to reducing the risk of infection from medical equipment and devices.

Virginia Mason officials said in a statement that the hospital respects the Joint Commission’s opinions and is working to fix the problems that resulted in their “contingent accreditation” status.
