COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — A Washington man who died in a small plane crash in northern Idaho has been identified as 70-year-old Kenneth Chapman of Spokane.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office released the identity on Monday morning.

The sheriff’s office says a passer-by driving through the rural area at about 3 p.m. Saturday spotted airplane wreckage off the road and alerted authorities.

Officials say a deputy arrived at the scene and confirmed that the pilot and sole occupant was dead in the plane.

The cause of the crash has not been established.
