Letter: Know the law before you ignite

I would like to remind all of the individuals who choose to utilize the 4th of July to explode fireworks in unincorporated Clark County that this opportunity exists only on the 4th and New Year’s Eve. Any other time is a violation of the law and will result in fines if reported.

This law goes into effect as of this year.

Most of the area from 219th Street in Battle Ground south to the Columbia River is in the area that has to adhere to this law. (Map of firework regulations at https://www.clark.wa.gov/community-development/fireworks)

Last year, a member of our church lost his home to fireworks, and our next door neighbor had his front yard set on fire from indiscriminate use of these missiles.

Fort Vancouver provides all the entertainment that is needed to celebrate Independence Day.
