Elementary school honors volunteer with 40-plus years or service

Lake Shore — The Eisenhower Elementary School Parent Teacher Association presented a Golden Acorn Award to Dorothy McChesney at a school assembly late in the school year. McChesney was honored for her more than 40 years of service volunteering at the school, which she started doing in 1970 when her daughter was a kindergarten student the first year the school opened. She had three other kids go through Eisenhower, and she volunteered multiple days a week at the school, spending a lot of that time in the health room ready to help that any child who needed first aid or medical attention. One of her daughters, Connie McChesney, has taught at Eisenhower since 1991, and since then, Dorothy McChesney has helped her daughter out after school one day a week. The Golden Acorn Award is given by the Parent Teacher Association of a school to an individual who has shown exceptional dedication and service to children and youth, according to a release from the district.
