The International Longshore and Warehouse Union on Thursday announced its endorsement of Sen. Bernie Sanders for president.

“Bernie Sanders is the best candidate for America’s working families,” ILWU International president and Vancouver resident Robert McEllrath said in a statement. The union represents 50,000 workers on the West Coast and elsewhere, nearly 300 of them in Vancouver’s Local 4.

The announcement comes during a major push by the Sanders and Hillary Clinton campaigns in Washington ahead of Saturday’s Democratic caucuses. Sanders appeared Sunday in Vancouver and will be in Portland today, while former President Bill Clinton stumped for his wife Monday in Vancouver.
