Prosthetic arm design competition slated at WSUV

The public is invited to watch 130 middle and high school students from Evergreen and Vancouver school districts compete in a prosthetic arm design challenge and more at the Southwest Washington MESA Day Engineering Design Competition from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Washington State University Vancouver, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave. Admission is free.

Events include:

• 9 a.m. to noon: Prosthetic Arm Challenge, Firstenburg Student Commons.

• 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: View science, technology, engineering and math exhibits, Engineering and Computer Science Building.

Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement Day provides students the opportunity to showcase their design, problem-solving, mathematical and communication skills.

The winning team will advance to the statewide MESA Day competition sponsored by Microsoft at the Microsoft Conference Center in Redmond. The state winner will compete at the MESA USA National Design Competition in Ogden, Utah, in June.
