Hudson’s Bay — Sheila Hamilton, KINK radio personality and author of “All the Things We Never Knew,” visited the Fort Vancouver Kiwanis Club for an Evening with the Author on April 15.

Hamilton shared her story about the impact of her husband’s sudden suicide and discussed how society handles mental illness. She and Kiwanis Club President Tammie Coelho, who put on the event, fielded questions from the 25 guests who attended. Coelho said she believed that everyone left with more understanding and empathy for those suffering with mental illness. “Sheila told her story with raw emotions and passion,” said Coelho. “I am so inspired by her work and so grateful she is sharing it with the world.”

In addition to the presentation, the club sold copies of Hamilton’s book to raise money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness Southwest Washington.
