Sacramento State gymnast Kalliah McCartney of Vancouver was honored as Female Student-Athlete of the Year at the school’s fifth annual Green and Golden Globes Awards held Monday at the University Union Ballroom to recognize athletic and academic performance during the 2015-16 academic year.

McCartney, a graduate of CAM High School in Battle Ground who trained at Naydenov Gymnastics of Vancouver and Multnomah Athletic Club of Portland, and her teammates were honored for Female Team Performance of the Year for their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship.

McCartney was also a finalist for Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year and for Female Individual Performance of the Year.

McCartney was named the MPSF Gymnast of the Year and qualified for the NCAA postseason for the fourth time of her career.

She is the only Hornet to compete at the NCAA national championships in program history, doing so as a junior in 2014 before her 2015 season was lost to injury. She narrowly missed advancing to nationals this season.

In the performance that garnered a nomination in the individual performance category, McCartney set the school all-around record at the MPSF Championship meet and was also the federation champion on vault and beam.

During the season, McCartney finished first in the all-around six times and added nine other individual event wins. She was the only gymnast to earn first team all-MPSF honors in all four events, as well as the all-around.

The video created for the “2015-16 Female Athlete of the Year” nominees is available on the Hornet Athletics channel on YouTube. McCartney appears at the 1:40 mark.
