The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the deputy who fired his weapon while responding to a disturbance call in Camas last week.

Deputy Brian Ellithorpe, a 23-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, remains on critical incident leave after firing one round of his service weapon on Wednesday, April 27, according to the sheriff’s office. No one was hit by the bullet.

Ellithorpe will remain on leave, a standard procedure, while the Vancouver Police Department Major Crimes Unit investigates the incident.

Deputies and officers with the Camas Police Department responded to a call of threats and disturbance with a weapon at 6610 N.E. 232nd Ave. about 12:30 p.m. on April 27, the sheriff’s office reported.

Upon arrival, the sheriff’s office said that law enforcement were confronted with a man with a firearm.

Ellithorpe fired one round, though the sheriff’s office did not say whether the man made threats or if Ellithorpe fired at the man.

According to police, the man was not injured during the altercation, but he began complaining of chest pain.

The man was taken to a hospital but was released later that night, Vancouver Police Sgt. Jeff Kipp said.

Kipp said the man involved in the altercation was interviewed and released by police. No charges have been filed.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, Kipp said, and once it is completed the information will be forwarded to the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
