SHORELINE — Shoreline police say a homeowner shot a burglar who was smashing windows and trying to break into his house.

KOMO-TV reports that the incident happened about 2:50 a.m. Thursday.

A man, his wife and two teenage daughters awoke to the noises of someone banging on the door and smashing windows of their home on Northeast 174th Street.

The homeowner grabbed his gun as one of his daughters called 911.

As police approached the house, they heard two gunshots. They found the suspect on the front lawn with a gunshot wound to his upper leg.

The suspect lost a lot of blood and was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with possible life-threatening injuries.

No charges are expected to be filed against the homeowner.
