VANCOUVER — The first armless person to earn a pilot’s license will be keynote speaker at a fundraising lunch for youth aviation education programs.

Jessica Cox will speak at the “Let’s Take Flight” event from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Pearson Field Education Center.

Born without arms, Cox uses her feet to live independently, graduate from the University of Arizona and earn two black belts in martial arts. On guinnessworldrecords.com, Cox is cited as the first woman to fly an airplane with her feet, guiding the steering column with one foot and using the other foot to handle the controls.

The Pearson Field Education Center is a program of the Fort Vancouver National Trust. Admission is $60. Tickets are available at fortvan.org/letstakeflight2016.

Live auction packages will include round-trip Alaska Airline tickets, a biplane ride, a Mount St. Helens guided climb, a survivalist adventure, a hot air balloon flight, a week of Aviation Summer Camp at Pearson Field Education Center, a catered party in the Pearson Field Education Center, and a catered holiday party at the Marshall House.

The Education Center’s hangar is on Pearson Field at the south end of East Reserve Street.
