Prep highlights: Tumwater ends Hudson’s Bay baseball season

Tumwater completed a comeback from a 4-0 deficit with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning Friday to win a 2A district play-in game over Hudson’s Bay 5-4.

The Thunderbirds advance to the double-elimination portion of the 2A district tournament and will face Ridgefield on Tuesday.

Jake Hammond went 3 for 3 with a run and RBI for the Eagles, who led 4-0 in the top of the fifth inning.

Stars of the day

• Preston Danberg, King’s Way Christian baseball, went 2 for 3 with two doubles and four RBI in a 10-0 win over Stevenson as the Knights finished Trico League play with a 13-2 mark.

• Abby Runyon, Hockinson softball, struck out 13 batters and walked two in a 3-0 loss against Woodland.

• Parker Boyd and Morgan Stradley, Battle Ground softball. Boyd struck out 11 batters in four innings, and Stradley had a double and knocked in three runs in a 7-4 win at Heritage.

• Kennedy Ferguson, Camas softball, struck out 14 batters and walked one in a 7-4 win over Skyview.

• Jessi Weaver, La Center softball, went 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI in the Wildcats’ 10-3 win over Castle Rock.

• Abby Harner, Washougal softball, was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI as Washougal beat Mark Morris 12-4.

• Calli Martin, Ridgefield softball, went 2 for 4 with a triple, home run and two RBI in the Spudders’ 8-5 loss to Aberdeen.

• Hannah Henderson, Evergreen softball, went 2 for 4 with two RBI as Evergreen beat Mountain View 11-7.

• Kristy Haagen and Cassidy Towne, Hockinson tennis, and Kylei Harrison and Emily Persons, Ridgefield tennis, played a 3 1/2 -hour doubles match with the Hockinson pair winning 7-6 (3), 5-7, 7-6 (15) in Ridgefield’s 5-1 team win.

• Kedrick Johnson, Hockinson boys track and field, was selected the boys athlete of the meet at the Spudder Invitational after winning the 100 meters, long jump and triple jump. Washougal won the team title.

• Julia Stepper, Woodland girls track and field, was selected the girls athlete of the meet at the Spudder Invitational after winning the 100, 200 and triple jump. Ridgefield won the team title.
