Letter: Benton’s pettiness on full display

By Robert F. Byrd, Vancouver

State Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, is Donald Trump’s Washington state campaign manager. Yet Benton “declined to be interviewed” for a front-page story in the May 6 Columbian “No Vancouver visit Saturday for Trump campaign,” about Trump’s plans for a visit to Clark County. Benton did find time to speak to The Oregonian and suggest that Trump supporters try to see him last week in Eugene, Ore.

What an incredibly petty “leader.” Benton can’t even put aside his personal feud with The Columbian when it hurts the candidate he is trying to get elected as president of the United States.

Trump obviously needs a new Washington state campaign manager. And this display of Benton’s spitefulness is further evidence of why he is so toxic as the director of Clark County’s environmental services.
