LOS ANGELES — Actor Danny Trejo, famous for his tough-guy roles, has voiced support for students following a lunchtime brawl involving dozens of students at a Los Angeles high school.

Trejo, who lives in the area, encouraged administrators at Sylmar High School to listen to students’ concerns about their safety at a meeting Wednesday.

KNBC-TV reports that video of the Monday fight that spread widely online shows some 40 students involved. It took a dozen officers to break it up.

Some students told the Los Angeles Times that the brawl involved tensions between black and Latino students and gangs that flared up at the previous weekend’s prom. Other students said the racial element was being overblown.

Trejo is known for his rugged parts in the “Machete” films and “From Dusk till Dawn.”
