Prep roundup: La Center has pair of dual district champs

Seton Catholic girls place second in 1A district track meet

La Center’s Jenna Melanson and Jeremy Scott were two-event winners at the 1A district track and field meet Thursday in Tumwater.

Melanson won the 1,600 meters (5:21.23) and 3,200 (11:15.87) in the girls meet. Other district champions included Kari Staples (100, 13.22) and Sarah Turcic (300 hurdles, 48.49) of King’s Way Christian, Elena Carrion (400, 1:01.47), Jorie Freitag (800, 2:26.94) and Kennedy Lake (triple jump, 32-3 1/2 ) of Seton Catholic.

Seton Catholic placed second to Eatonville in the girls team standings.

Scott won the 110 hurdles (16.64) and 300 hurdles (42.47) in the boys meet. Luke Nichols of Stevenson (pole vault, 12-9) was the lone other local district champion.

4A bi-district track — Thursday was the first day of the 4A bi-district track and field meet in Kent. Results were not made available. The meet concludes Saturday.

4A district tennis — Hannah Gianan of Camas and Amila Gogalija both had perfect days in reaching the singles final at the 4A district tournament at Club Green Meadows.

Gianan and Gogalija each won three 6-0, 6-0 matches on Thursday. Gianan beat Patrice Huang of Mountain View in the semifinals, and Gogalija beat Andrea Besara of Battle Ground.

In doubles, Union’s Sydney Wallace and Mckenzie Schreiner advanced to face Skyview’s Vanessa Vincent and Sarah Morgan in the finals.

2A softball — Thursday’s entire schedule of games in the 2A district tournament in Centralia was rained out Thursday. The games were rescheduled to Friday.
