EUGENE, Ore. — An Oregon man who nearly beat a small dog to death has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for that crime, a punishment that displeased a district attorney and members of the community.
The Register-Guard reports that for drug possession after pleading guilty Wednesday.
Public concern about the sentence for aggravated animal abuse led Lane County District Attorney Patty Perlow to issue a response through Twitter.
Perlow said the punishment was correct given the sentencing guidelines, but she is “as unhappy as you that animals are valued so little in our criminal justice system.”
