Vancouver Lake Crew qualified four boats to varsity finals on Friday, the first day of the U.S. Rowing Northwest Youth Regionals at Vancouver Lake.

Three of the boats will race Saturday morning for berths in the youth national championships.

Bailey Peterson will row in the finals in the varsity girls single, Matthew Murphy qualified in the varsity boys single, and Niko John and Eric Johnson will row in the varsity boys double final.

The top three boats in each varsity final quality for the nationals.

The VLC varsity boys quad boat also qualified for the final, but will not race because of the tight schedule, according to VLC coach Alan Stewart. John, Murphy, Johnson and Pearce Fowler rowed together in the quad boat.

Rowing continues from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. to noon on Sunday as more than a thousand high school rowers compete in novice, junior varsity and varsity racing.

Vancouver Lake Regional Park is the place to watch the racing.
