Prep roundup: King’s Way baseball season ends in semifinal

The King’s Way Christian baseball season ended just short of a trip to the Class 1A state semifinals.

Overlake scored three times in the top of the eighth inning to beat the Knights 4-1 on Saturday in a regional final game at Volunteer Field in Anacortes.

King’s Way reached the regional final with an 8-3 win earlier Saturday afternoon over Cedar Park Christian.

A two-run triple by Trevor McRae capped the decisive inning for Overlake, which had three hits and a walk in the top of the eighth inning. Both teams scored once in the fifth inning. Five Knights hit one single in the game.

Damon Casetta-Stubbs pitched 7 1/3 innings for King’s Way. He struck out eight and limited Overlake to four hits but took the loss.

King’s Way Christian 8, Cedar Park Christian 3 — In Saturday’s regional semifinal, Sam Lauderdale knocked in four runs as the Knights scored three in the top of the first and five more in the third inning.

On the mound, Lauderdale struck out seven and scattered nine hits for the complete-game win.

2A softball

A four-run seventh inning for Tumwater ended the Washougal softball season on Saturday one win short of a state-tournament berth.

Tumwater beat Washougal 7-4 in the third-place game at the Class 2A District 4 tournament in Chehalis. Washougal won a loser-out game over Centralia earlier on Saturday to reach the third-place game.

“The girls played their best softball at the end of the season. We are very proud of our team,” Washougal coach John Carver said.

The Panthers took a 4-3 lead win one run in the bottom of the sixth inning before Tumwater put together the winning rally in its final at bat.

Washougal had only four hits in the game, but benefitted from seven Tumwater errors and tied the game with three runs in the second inning.

Washougal 12, Centralia 4 — In a loser-out game, Morgan Ratcliff went 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBI to power the Panthers, who outhit the Tigers 18-6. Paige Forsberg struck out 12 for the pitching win.

Tumwater 6, Ridgefield 1 — Tumwater eliminated Ridgefield with a 10-hit attack. Calli Martin had two of Ridgefield’s five hits, Emma Jenkins had the RBI and Kaia Oliver and Jenna Martin hit doubles.

1A boys soccer

Connell 5, La Center 1 — Hunter Leach scored in the first half for the Wildcats, but La Center’s season ended with a loss on the road in the state quarterfinals.

4A track

Union’s Jilven Refil won the 200 meters and Trevor Bushman won the pole vault as the Titan boys placed third at the 4A bi-district meet in Kent.

In a meet where the top seven qualify for state, local runners took four of the top five spots in the 800. Adam Ryan of Camas placed second while teammates Cade Greseth and Dustin Zimmerly and Skyview’s Mason Scheidel were all just behind.

In the girls meet, Skyview’s Krystal Kaufman won the 800 meters. Emma Jenkins of Camas finished second in the 3,200.

3A track

Columbia River’s Yaiydenn Lopez-Perez won the discus at the 3A bi-district meet in Sumner.

River’s Grayson Burke took third in the 200 meters and teammate Tiarra Ringold was third in the long jump. The top six finishers qualify for state.

Prairie’s Hannah Kneeshaw placed fourth in the 3,200.

In the boys meet, Prairie’s Michael Schmidt was third in the 300 hurdles. Fort Vancouver’s Illia Saakian was fourth in the high jump.
