Students playing trumpets, drums and tubas will march along as the 52nd annual Hazel Dell Parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. today. The parade starts from the Fire District 6, Station 1, 8800 N.E. The Vancouver Watersheds Alliance presents a different environmental film every fourth Tuesday of the month, complete with free pizza and discussion. This moth, “Plant This Movie” explores the world of urban farming, from Portland to Cuba, narrated by Daryl Hannah. The Cedar Creek Grist Mill will be cooking up Bread and Butter Day from noon to 4 p.m. May 28. The Portland Rose Festival will open with its CityFair at 5 p.m. May 27, complete with opening night fireworks at 9:45 p.m. along the Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park, 1020 S.W. Naito Parkway, Portland. The fair festivities continue through the weekend from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. May 28-30, June 4-5 and June 11-12, 3 to 11 p.m. June 2-3 and June 9-10.
