The La Center softball team already had a berth to the Class 1A state tournament in their back pocket.

On Sunday, they added a District 4 trophy to take along to Richland.

Megan Muffett went 3 for 4 with a triple, home run and four RBI as the Wildcats defeated Castle Rock 9-2 in the 1A District 4 championship game at Fort Borst Park in Centralia.

Waiting a day for weather didn’t cool off the La Center bats as they cranked out 14 hits in the victory.

Castle Rock scored in the first inning for its only lead of the game. But the Rockets stayed close until the fourth inning.

With the score tied a 2-2, Muffett knocked in the go-ahead run with a triple, and then scored on Abby England’s single.

Two more runs scored in the fifth, one on a groundout and then another on Alicen Smith’s single for a 6-2 advantage.

Muffett capped things off with a three-run home run in the seventh.

Paige Stinson and Jessi Weaver each had two hits with a double.

England struck out eight batters and walked three.

4A bi-district playoff resumes Tuesday — Redmond will return to Battle Ground at 5 p.m. Tuesday to pick up the suspended playoff game from Saturday. Redmond leads 5-0 in the fifth.
