Teacher who was attacked hopes to return to classroom soon

BOTHELL — A Washington high school teacher who was attacked in his classroom after school ended says he is recovering from his injuries and hopes to return to the classroom as soon as possible.

Cal Pygott, who teaches woodshop at Bothell High School, about 12 miles northeast of Seattle, told news outlets he won’t let the attack turn him into a victim. He also said in interviews Monday that he has been overwhelmed with support.

Pygott says he working on a machine in his classroom Thursday afternoon when he was hit from behind and knocked unconscious. When he woke up he had a plastic zip tie around his neck. He stumbled out of the classroom to flag down help. Another teacher found him collapsed on the ground.

Police are still searching for a suspect.
