CHAMPION FOR CHILDREN

Battle Ground Public Schools Superintendent Mark Hottowe was named the Champion for Children by the Washington Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Foundation for Healthy Generations. The award recognizes an individual or team committed to providing whole-child, school-based, social, emotional, and physical support to vulnerable students and their families.

Hottowe is leading the district with the knowledge that students need a safe, supportive environment before they can be attentive to learning. He is expanding programs, such as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, and reaching out to community organizations and health professionals.

PATIENT SATISFACTION

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center four stars in patient satisfaction; it was one of five hospitals in Washington state to receive a 4-star rating. Ratings were based on a Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, with data collected between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015.

EXCELLENCE IN SCHOOL COMMUNICATIONS

Educational Service District 112 and several Clark County school districts won awards for excellence in school communications and were recognized last month at an annual conference in Leavenworth. The awards recognize outstanding printed and digital publications, photographs, writing, social media, newsletters, websites, marketing and branding, and video programs.

ESD 112 received 15 awards for work done on behalf of districts they serve in Washington and Oregon. Awards received for work in Clark County schools include: Annual Report and Excellence in Writing, Camas School District; Special Purpose publications, Battle Ground Public Schools.

Battle Ground Public Schools received five awards in these categories: Special Purpose Publications; Print Newsletter; Excellence in Writing; and Photography.

Camas School District received two awards, in Excellence in Writing; and Annual Report.

Evergreen Public Schools received eight awards in Video; Social Media; and Photography.

Vancouver Public Schools received an award in Finance Publication.
