Oregon Bach Festival to break ground on new building

EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon Bach Festival will be breaking ground in June on its permanent new home on the University of Oregon campus. The new building will be adjacent to the Frohnmayer Music Building and will likely be called Berwick Hall.

The Register-Guard reports the ground breaking on June 17 is less than a week before the festival opens its 47th season with J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor.

The 10,000-square-foot, two-story building will include rehearsal, recital, lecture, reception and administrative spaces. It’s scheduled to be completed by the time the 2017 festival opens.

The proposed name recognizes University of Oregon alumni Phyllis and Andrew Berwick, whose gift of $6.5 million to the Oregon Bach Festival will pay much of the cost of the $8.7 million building designed by Hacker Architects in Portland.
