1. By land, air and sea

The Fort Vancouver National Historic Site will be filled with activities this weekend. Aviation fans can climb into the cockpit of vintage aircraft to get a pilot’s eye view during Open Cockpit Day. Historic planes will be on display, and visitors can try the Real Flight simulator. Reserve St., Vancouver. 360-992-1815 or fortvan.org

Vancouver’s Memorial Day Observance Ceremony will begin at the parade ground bandstand at 11 a.m. May 30. The ceremony’s keynote speaker will be U.S. Marine Lt. Colonel Brad Aiello. The popular Soldiers’ Bivouac living history encampment will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., when reenactors will create living history camps of military sites from the Civil War to World War II. The Cedar Creek Grist Mill will cook up its annual Bread and Butter Day noon to 4 p.m. May 28.  3. Toast local wine

Memorial Day Weekend is celebrated by local wineries as Spring Release Weekend, when the public can try new wines that the wineries have been fermenting, especially ros? and white wines. Individual wineries will have special events and festivities throughout the holiday weekend from noon to 6 p.m. May 28-30. Participating wineries include Yacolt’s Moulton Falls Winery; Vancouver’s Burnt Bridge Cellars, Cellar 55 Tasting Room and English Estate Winery; Ridgefield’s Confluence Vineyards, Stavalaura Vineyard and Koi Pond Cellars; and Battle Ground’s Emanar Cellars, Heisen House Vineyards, Olequa Cellars and Rezabek Vineyards. Check with individual wineries for specific times and tasting fees. The Southwest Washington Winery Association also is offering a free passport program. www.swwawine.com
