Guests mingled at a Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce party on Thursday evening to kick off the upcoming restaurant WareHouse ’23 at the former Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay. The event was a sneak peek at the rebirth of the waterfront space at the heart of the Port of Vancouver’s Terminal 1 redevelopment at Columbia Street and Columbia Way. The restaurant and ballroom event space are set to open this summer. WareHouse ’23 owner Mark Matthias, who owns the popular Vancouver waterfront restaurant Beaches just upriver, has said the menu and drinks will be Northwest-focused, and the space itself will be reverted to something resembling the warehouse. “It’s that whole craft, regional mentality,” Matthias told The Columbian in April. “Our goal is for a real shared dining experience.” Some of the best dining-room views in the city were found at the Red Lion’s restaurant for decades before it closed in October. Matthias’ new venture looks to bring the community back to its waterfront.
