WASHINGTON — The Education Department has appointed a new law firm to oversee the turnaround of schools once owned by Corinthian Colleges Inc. The appointment of attorney Clark Kent Ervin of Squire Patton Boggs LLP comes after an Associated Press probe found ongoing trouble with the career training programs.
Corinthian Colleges was one of the largest chains of for-profit colleges when it collapsed in 2015 amid allegations of fraud. Zenith Education Group, a student-loan debt collection firm, took over remaining Corinthian operations, including Everest College campuses in Vancouver and Portland and a Heald College in Portland.
Ervin will now become the government’s eyes and ears within Zenith. He is the former inspector general for the Homeland Security Department and the State Department.
