Democrats dominate races for Congress in Washington state. It could be because Republicans see no problem with candidates like Chis Vance, running for U.S. Senate and refusing to support the GOP candidate for president even if it means throwing the election to a possible felon.
Democrats don’t have an ideologically “pure” right wing that has hurt GOP candidates for years. Too many Republicans believe there’s no difference between a moderate Republican and a liberal Democrat. These “purest” stayed home when John McCain was deemed too liberal and Mitt Romney was the wrong religion. They’re delusional and blinded by their hard-right ideology.
Democrats are just more practical. Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., both continue to support possibly the worst president since President Jimmy Carter because they understand that to have any hope of passing legislation favorable to their party, Democrats must win elections. Both senators supported the phony Iran nuclear deal, probably knowing their constituents were being duped.
Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump are aware that voters are ready for this election’s populist movement. Sanders will no doubt lose the battle to party superdelegates led by Hillary Clinton. Trump, on the other hand, could pull off a big upset and prove political pundits wrong again if he can get support of a few more women and minorities.
