Reading the May 11 story “State says no to increase to 75 mph speed limit on I-90,” I was glad that the speed limit will not be raised. Due to the fact that only a few minutes will be saved in travel time by increasing the speed limit, I agree that it is not worth the extra 1.27 crashes per year.
I know that when the federal government repealed the rule of having the maximum speed limit of 55 mph in each state, traffic accidents increased. If we can prevent crashes from happening by having people drive for an extra few minutes, I think it is totally worth it.
