Weather Eye: Temperatures mild next week, above average for time of year

We still haven’t had a day without measurable rain for a while, although Wednesday seemed like a nice day. We did have a few showers early, dry during most of the daylight hours, and more rain was moving in after dark.

Today could have some lingering showers after the main front that was forecast to move away from us early in the morning. Friday looks dry with more rain and showers over the weekend. So the best chance of having a day without measurable rain will be Friday; however, rain might be back before midnight.

Next week looks unsettled, but we may squeeze out a dry day or two, as the main storm track will be upon our friends and neighbors north of us in Western Washington. I hate to make a strong statement saying we will be dry when wetness is so close. I am hoping for a few dry days. We will have to see.

We discussed how wet October was around the Northwest with over 8 inches locally, a record. June Lake and Swift Reservoir had between 40 and 50 inches of rain last month. I bet that helped fill the reservoir just a bit!

One note of interest is that temperatures will be mild the next week or so, with highs around 60 or better, which is above average for this time of the year. No freezing weather, either, so those who have not had a frost yet will be waiting.

The second half of the month, the weather pattern may change, and we could have cooler and wetter conditions with snow beginning to pile up in the Cascades. We will keep a weather eye on that trend as the days go by.

Do you remember the last time we had a day without measurable rain? It was October 10 and 11. We will see if we can break the wet steak in the next day or so.
