Prep Roundup: Camas, Union close in on 4A state volleyball

Camas and Union are one win away from going to the 4A state volleyball tournament.

Both teams went 1-1 on the first day of the 4A bi-district tournament Friday at Kentwood High School in Kent.

Camas won its first match over Emerald Ridge in a back-and-forth contest 3-2.

Scores were 21-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-17, 15-9.

The Papermakers then lost to Puyallup 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-17) to move into the consolation side of the double-elimination bracket.

Union opened with a 3-0 loss to Tahoma, 25-19, 25-24, 25-9.

The Titans then stayed alive by eliminating Skyview 3-1. Scores were 25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 25-11.

Skyview had lost to Bellarmine 3-0 in its first match. Scores were 25-18, 25-17, 26-24.

Camas will play Graham Kapowsin, and Union will face Curtis, both a noon today. Winners of those matches advance to state and will play again at 4 p.m. today for seeding, though a coin flip will ultimately determine seeds 5-8.

3A BI-DISTRICT — Prairie won its first-round match at Yelm, defeating Shelton 25-13, 25-16, 25-15. The Falcons advance to the quarterfinals against Timberline at 9 a.m.

Zoe McBride had 11 kills and 13 digs, Abby Brotherton had eight kills, Tessa Doerfler had 16 digs, and Megan Hess had 31 assists for Prairie.

If Prairie wins, the Falcons will play a semifinal at 1 p.m. If they lose, they will play again at 11 a.m.

Hudson’s Bay was eliminated with two losses Friday.

The Eagles lost a first-round match to Bonney Lake 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-15) and a consolation match to Stadium 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-18)

Mountain View lost a first-round match to Wilson before facing Spanaway Lake in an eliminaiton match. Those results were not reported.

Top five places advance to the 3A state tournament at Kennewick.

2A DISTRICT — Columbia River’s Sydney Boyle is the top seed for the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke going to the finals at The Evergreen State College in Olympia.

The top three placers from today’s finals advance to state, however Boyle and several of her teammates have already qualified based on qualifying times met during the season.

Also for Columbia River, Kara Noftsker is the No. 1 seed in the 100 and 200 freestyle finals, and Madisyn Morin is No. 1 in the 500 free final.
