The Prairie volleyball team capped off its run at the Class 3A state tournament in Kennewick with three consecutive victories to capture the seventh-place trophy.

In fact, the Falcons didn’t drop a set on those three straight wins.

On Saturday, Prairie opened with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 win over Holy Names of Seattle. Zoe McBride had 18 kills and 10 digs, Tessa Doerfler had 24 digs, Megan Hammes had 12 digs and Megan Hess had 34 assists.

In the seventh-place match, Prairie topped Ferndale 25-22, 25-23, 25-17. McBride had 17 kills and nine digs, Katie Vroman had 14 kills, Doerfler had 23 digs, Hammes with 10 digs and Hess with 37 assists.

Lakeside, which beat Prairie in the first round, went on to win the 3A state title in three sets over Mount Spokane.

La Center ends season with loss — La Center’s run in the 1A state tournament ended with a 3-1 loss to Cascade of Leavenworth, 25-18, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16 in the fifth-place semifinals.

Laynie Erickson had 13 kills and 10 digs, Maddie Stimmel had 14 kills and 13 digs, Abby England had 18 digs and Paige Rice had 17 assists for the Wildcats against a much-taller Cascade squad.

“They have five girls over 5- ’11 and we have one,” La Center coach Cymany O’Brien said. “We did get into really long rallies with them and overall played them tough. It was the play I’d been waiting to see out of them all weekend — scrappy, relentless, confident and together. Unfortunately, we were outmatched.”
