1. Holiday cheer

Get moving with some holiday spirit at the annual Hot Buttered Run. This event features 5K, 12K and half-marathon routes for participants, Christmas trees, Santa and holiday music. There will be a Kids Fun Run and Kids Kandy Kane 1K. Costumes are encouraged. Participants will end the race with warm drinks, including rum for the 21-and-older crowd, music and goodie bags. Race-day registration opens at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 27 at Esther Short Park, West Eighth and Columbia streets, Vancouver. 2. Fun with words

I Like Comics will celebrate its sixth anniversary with a big celebration from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 25 and 26. The celebration kicks off with a bevy of local comic creators, writers and artists including Karl Kesel, Pete Woods, Taki Soma, Dan Schkade, Jim Valentino, Matthew Clark, Steve Borock and more. Author Chuck Palahniuk, author of “Fight Club,” will headline the celebration. Palahniuk will be at the store Nov. 25 with his new adult coloring book, “Bait: Off-Color Stories for You to Color.” Tickets to Palahniuk’s appearance, which include a signed copy of “Bait,” can be purchased at the store, 1715 Broadway, Vancouver. It’s a day of authors, prizes and activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 26 at Vintage Books, 6613 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver. Children’s authors Karala Von Huben (“The Youngest Elf” series) and Jason Germany (“The Cats of Halberd Manor”) will sign and discuss books from 11 a.m. to noon. Four local cozy mystery authors — Carolyn Rose, Kate Dyer-Seeley, Cindy Brown and Angela Sanders — will talk about their series, answer questions and give customers temporary tattoos from noon to 2 p.m. Heidi Schulz, author of “Giraffe’s Ruin Everything”; Laurel Gale, author of “Dead Boy”; and Lisa Schroeder, author of “My Secret Guide to Paris,” will make an appearance from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free. 360-694-9519 or www.vintage-books.net

3. Grape festivities

Taste the wines of Clark County during the Thanksgiving Weekend Barrel Tasting hosted by the Southwest Washington Winery Association. Individual wineries and tasting rooms will offer new releases and barrel tastings, allowing visitors try wines that are in-progress. The self-guided tour will run noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 25-27 at participating wineries. Battle Ground participants include Emanar Cellars, 1113 S.E. Rasmussen Blvd.; Heisen House Vineyards, 28005 N.E. 172nd Ave.; Olequa Cellars, 24218 N.E. 142nd Ave.; and Rezabek Vineyards, 11700 N.E. 279th St. Ridgefield participants include Confluence Vineyards & Winery, 19111 N.W. 67th Ave.; Koi Pond Cellars, 120 N. Third Ave.; and Stavalaura Vineyard, 29503 N.W. 41st Ave. In Vancouver, participants include Burnt Bridge Cellars, 1500 Broadway; Cellar 55 Tasting Room, 1812 Washington St.; and English Estate Winery, 17806 S.E. 4. Annual displays

The annual holiday lights display returns: Spectators can drive through the Winter Wonderland at Portland International Raceway, 1940 N. Victory Blvd., Portland. See one of the largest holiday light shows in the West, with dozens of displays set up along the 2-mile racetrack. Proceeds benefit the Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division. The lights are on through Dec. 25, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is $20 for cars, $22 for passenger vans, $25 for limos and recreational vehicles and $30 to $45 for buses. A Bike the Lights event open to bicycles and walkers will be Nov. 29; no motorized vehicles will be allowed. Admission that night is $6 and free for ages 13 and younger. 5. Jolly laughs

The Slate will celebrate its 10th graduating class with an evening of laughter with 17 comedians. Performers include Thomas Lundy, Chris Ettrick, Laci Day, Molly McNab, Sarah Everett and Isaac Pendergrass. The event will be hosted by Tristian Spillman. It all begins at 8 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver. Tickets are $10. www.kigginstheatre.net/events/standup-comedy-showcase

It’s an evening of stand-up comedy with Brooklyn-based comic Hari Kondabolu, best known for his political comedy and observations. The performance runs 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 1 at Washington State University Vancouver, Room 110 of the Dengerink Administration Building, 14204 N.E.
