A Vancouver man is accused of beating his wife and her boyfriend after the boyfriend apparently walked in on the married couple when they were in bed together, according to court documents.

Christopher D. Reichel, 39, appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault, one count of second-degree domestic violence assault, felony harassment and fourth-degree domestic violence assault.

Vancouver police responded at about 9:50 p.m. Saturday to a tavern in Rose Village for a reported assault. The victim, Kevin Bradbury, had blood all over his face, right ear and the front of his shirt, according to a probable cause affidavit.

He told police he was unable to get in touch with his girlfriend after she told him she wasn’t feeling well. He drove to her home in the 3100 block of Bridge Street, he said, and entered her house with his key. There, he found her in bed with Reichel, the affidavit states. Court records say she is Reichel’s wife.

Reichel jumped out of bed and began punching Bradbury in the head and pushed him down the stairs, according to court documents. Reichel allegedly told Bradbury he wasn’t going to let him leave and threatened to kill him. However, Bradbury managed to get to his car, left and called 911, the affidavit said.

He was later treated at a hospital, where staff said he suffered a broken nose and shattered cartilage in his right ear, court records state.

Police attempted to contact Reichel and his wife at their house, but no one answered the door.

While police continued to respond to the incident, a neighbor called shortly after midnight to report a male and female yelling at the house. The woman was yelling for the man to get out, according to the affidavit. But when officers arrived again, Reichel was gone.

His wife had swelling to the left side of her face, police said, and could barely speak. She said Reichel “freaked out” when officers came to the house and tried to leave. He was drunk, she said, so she stabbed his vehicle’s tires to stop him from leaving. He then went “crazy” and began punching her in the face, court records said.

Hospital staff said she suffered a broken and dislocated jaw, according to court documents.

When police contacted Reichel, he admitted to “(expletive) up” and changed his story numerous times, the affidavit said.

During his hearing, Judge Scott Collier set Reichel’s bail at $100,000, court records show. He will be arraigned Dec. 9, and in the meantime is not to have contact with his wife or Bradbury.
