Because of growing enrollment and two new schools opening, the Washougal School District is setting up a committee to review its district boundaries.

Construction started this summer on a replacement for Jemtegaard Middle School and the new Columbia River Gorge Elementary School. Both are expected to open next fall.

The district will consider revising current boundaries for the start of the 2017-18 school year.

The committee will be made up of two parents and the principal of each school in the district, and will meet weekly from mid-January through mid-March. The district also will host open houses Feb. 8 and March 1 so the public can provide input for the boundary review process.

The committee will make its final recommendation at the district’s March 28 school board meeting.

For an application to serve on the committee, visit www.washougal.k12.wa.us/boundary-review-process or pick one up at the district office, 4855 Evergreen Way, Washougal. Applications must be submitted by Oct. 28, and committee members will be identified by Nov. 10. The application asks for people to submit some personal information, as well as personal statement, no longer than 100 words, detailing their relevant experience and what they can bring to the committee.

For more questions about the process, contact the district at boundary.review@washougalsd.org or 360-954-3000.
