Letter: Vote ‘no’ on Proposition 1

By Marc Newman, VANCOUVER
Published: October 12, 2016, 6:00am

Proposition 1 in Vancouver is nothing more than Section 8 housing in disguise.

Proposition 1 calls for new taxes to homeowners as an “investment.” With this kind of plan always comes more crime, burdens to local schools and law enforcement. This will lead to more levies.

Vancouver has been blackmailed by our government for federal block grants if they don’t meet HUD’s quota for housing when the zone laws were changed in 2013. HUD will also force our community to take illegal immigrants through this as a “protected” class of people. HUD is currently mapping every neighborhood.

I already pay a levy for two failing schools that rated a “3” and a “4,” respectively. My “investment” has yet to pay off. So I’ll pass on this Socialist program.
