City Bible Church has signaled that it will be converting its ice rink into an elementary school.

According to an application with the city of Vancouver, City Bible Church plans to convert an ice rink at 14311 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. into a 22,000-square-foot school for up to 200 kindergarten through fifth-grade students. The application also calls for building a 14,000-square-foot gymnasium for both the school and church, as well as for off-hours community functions.

The church converted one portion of the Mountain View Ice Arena into a church already in 2006. This would complete that project, according to a letter the Carleton Hart Architecture firm submitted to the city.

The church is still in the first steps of converting the facility, having scheduled a pre-application hearing with the city for early next week.
