PUYALLUP — Puyallup police say an officer shot an armed robber after he held up a Denny’s Restaurant.

The shooting early Wednesday followed a chase on State Route 512 that ended with the getaway car crashing into a concrete overpass support pillar. When officers tried to arrest the suspect, who was a passenger in the car, they say he brandished a weapon at the driver and an officer shot him.

The suspect suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. The driver was arrested without further incident.

Puyallup police described the suspect as an armed serial robber who had committed about 10 holdups in Pierce County.
