Musicians strike up the band to create 30 anti-Trump songs

It’s not news that famous musicians are Democrats. But, it is news when famous musicians pledge to write and release a series of original political songs for each of the last 30 days before the 2016 election.

That’s exactly what’s happening via a group called “30 Days, 30 Songs” which is releasing a song a day by “musicians for a Trump-free America.” It’s being organized by novelist Dave Eggers — he of “A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius” — and Jordan Kurland, who runs Zeitgeist Artist Management. (Eggers came up with the idea after going to a Trump rally in Sacramento and hearing Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and The Who being played; Eggers wrote about that experience for The Guardian.)

“This is the third project that Dave Eggers and I have worked on together around a presidential election,” Kurland said. “This year’s primary goal, in the same manner as 2012’s, 90 Days, 90 Reasons, is to raise awareness and hopefully create some urgency amongst younger voters.”

The project is currently in day four with Jim James (of “My Morning Jacket”) doing a song called “Same Old Lie.”

Death Cab for Cutie, Aimee Mann and Bhi Bhiman have already released their anti-Trump tunes. R.E.M. is also a part of the 30-day project. Money raised for the effort will go to the Center for Popular Democracy.
