Letter: Let us vote and then move on

As Americans we need to remember that President George W. Bush said it for all of us: “You don’t have to be a Christian to be a citizen of this country.” It follows then that your vote as a citizen is counted carefully by people who are trusted from both political parties. There is always room for write-ins. Sometimes there are recounts when the finish is close.

The most important thing in this election is to vote and voting your conscience. And when all is said and done, the popular vote is then referred to the electors of the Electoral College. Of the 50 states, each state has just so many electors who vote. One candidate wins the most votes and the defeated party concedes.

Then, in America we close ranks and move on. That is more important than anything. Sadly though, the partisan spirit lives on and festers until the next election. But also, thankfully the world applauds what happens in America, and so may God bless America and also bless the entire planet.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
