PORTLAND — Washington County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Garden Home man accused of attacking his landlord with a sword.

Deputies arrived around 7 p.m. Saturday night to a home in the 7600 block of Southwest 67th Avenue.

Deputies said Gregory Barsaloux, 56, had used a Samurai-type sword in an attempt to injure his landlord, who lives with him. Deputies found the landlord unharmed. As they began trying to talk to Barsaloux, deputies said, he armed himself with a rifle and threatened deputies.

Deputies evacuated neighbors. They then called the Washington County Tactical Negotiation Team and the Washington County Crisis Negotiation Unit to assist them. Negotiators were able to talk to Barsaloux by phone, deputies said.

After three hours, police said, Barsaloux left the house, still armed with the shotgun. He followed commands, police said, and dropped the shotgun. He was lodged in the Washington County Jail on charges of first-degree attempted assault, two counts of menacing, first-degree criminal mischief and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held on $250,000 bail.
