Firefighters responded to a smoky, tenacious fire at an unoccupied house in Camas on Friday afternoon.

The Camas-Washougal Fire Department was called to a report of a structure fire in the 500 block of Northwest Elm Street shortly before 3:30.

They arrived to find a fire in a small house, and ample smoke, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

The house was not occupied, and radio traffic indicated firefighters were able to take an offensive approach and work from inside the building.

It took upwards of 40 minutes until the fire was mostly under control, according to radio traffic.
