Olympia – The state is seeking help from anyone interested in helping the state count how many people walk or ride bicycles to their destinations during a three-day survey at the end of the month.

Almost 60 cities in the state, including Vancouver and Battle Ground, are participating in the survey.

About 400 volunteers are needed for the count, which will run from Sept. 27 until Sept. 29.

In 2015, volunteers tallied more than 74,000 bicyclists and pedestrians in communities across Washington.

The data is used by state and local agencies to estimate demand, measure the benefits of cyclist and pedestrian infrastructure investments, and guide polices, project designs and funding opportunities.

The survey will also help WSDOT in its effort to reduce the miles of traveled by vehicles and increase bicycling and walking.

To learn more or get involved, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/bike/Count.htm; email the Cascade Bicycle Club at JeffA@cascade.org or call 206-439-4301.

This year’s count is a partnership between the Washington State Department of Transportation, Cascade Bicycle Club, FeetFirst, Washington Bikes and Futurewise.
