An Oregon City, Ore., man riding a motorcycle was injured early Saturday morning after he rear-ended an SUV on Interstate 5, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Nicolas Guarente, 29, was reportedly driving under the influence when he struck Vancouver man Matthew Phillips’ GMC Suburban a few minutes after midnight on the northbound side of the I-5 Bridge, according to a WSP news release.

Guarente, who was wearing a helmet, flew from his Triumph motorcycle and landed on the left shoulder. The WSP reported that Guarente was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, but the hospital had no record of him later Saturday.

Phillips, 42, was uninjured and able to drive his Suburban from the scene.

The accident closed the left lanes of both sides of I-5 until 12:45 a.m.
