Prep highlights: Ridgefield earns 2A GSHL sweep over Columbia River

Spudders edge Chieftains in soccer, volleyball

The first competition between Ridgefield and Columbia River as Class 2A Greater St. Helens League opponents produced a pair of dramatic matches on Tuesday.

And Ridgefield prevailed in both.

In volleyball, the Spudders won the decisive fifth set 16-14 to edge the Chieftains 3-2.

In girls soccer, Ridgefield won a penalty-kick tiebreaker after the teams played to a 1-1 draw.

In the volleyball match, Ridgefield’s Madi Harter had 17 kills and 19 digs. The Spudders

Sarena Bartley had 20 kills and Bella Gama had 47 assists. For Columbia River, Abby Wilmington had 13 kills and Charlie Sperry 12 kills and 15 digs.

In the soccer showdown, Kara Klaus scored for Ridgefield from a Tayrn Ries assist and Ellie Walker scored for Columbia River from an assist by Sarah Givvensa. Ridgefield won the shootout 4-3.

Stars of the day

• Chanse Gilbert and Zeke Oien, Skyview boys cross country, finished a fraction of a second spart to lead the Storm to a pair of dual-meet wins at Battle Ground. Gilbert won in 17 minutes. 30.3 seconds and Oien finished the 5,000 meters at lewisville Park in 17:30.7.

• Laynie Erickson, La Center volleyball, had 13 kills in a sweep of Hudson’s Bay.

• Julia Sprowls, King’s Way Christian volleyball, had 12 kills, 11 digs and three aces in a win ver Fort Vancouver.

• Taylor Foster, Woodland volleyball, had 12 kills in a sweep over Mark Morris.

• Isabelle Morales, Union girls soccer, had two goals in a 4-0 win over Evergreen.

• Paige German, Hudson’s Bay girls soccer, had two goals and one assist in a 3-2 win over Milwaukie, Ore.

• Aimie Kurfurst, Prairie girls soccer, scored a second-half goal to lift the Falcons over Battle Ground.

• Trinity Paulsen, Hockinson girls soccer, scored the only goal as the Hawks opened league play with a 1-0 win over Washougal.

• Brock Schoene, Evergreen cross country, raced to a 21-second win, finishing the 4,000-meter course at Fort Vancouver in 13:01.

• Emily Phelps, Fort Vancouver cross country, picked up the win in her first dual meet of the season, running her home 4,000-meter course in 15:00.

• Ellen Burbank, Skyview girls cross country, followed up her win in the Run-A-Ree with a tri-meet win over Heritage and Battle Ground at Lewisville Park in 20:17.

• Silas Griffith, Ridgefield boys cross country, won a 2A GSHL meet at Vancouver Lake in 17:04 as the Spudders beat Columbia River and Woodland.

• Lexie Rutherford, Ridgefield girls cross country, held off Natalie Biddix of Woodland to win a 2A GSHL meet at Vancouver Lake in 21:22.
