Letter: Scout is on right track

The letter from Boy Scout Kai Christensen (“Kaepernick wrong to sit,” Sept. 8) brought a thrill to my heart. Perhaps there is yet hope for the future in spite of the constant and increasing news to the contrary.

When I raised my hand in 1938 to recite the scout oath, I, with the other boys from the seventh grade at Hazel Dell School, took it very seriously. “On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”

In this present age where boys are without fathers the oath is “Get all you can from wherever you can, from whoever you can, while you can.”

Thank you, Kai, for demonstrating the Boy Scout motto: “Be prepared.”
