A Battle Ground man injured in a rear-end crash last month died Monday in a local hospital.

Harold Bursdall, 74, had been hospitalized since the Aug. 22 crash and died at about 1:30 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

Bursdall was driving a 2007 Toyota Carolla north on state Highway 503 in Brush Prairie about 7:15 p.m. when he stopped at a railroad crossing near Northeast 149th Street for a stopped C-Tran bus, the State Patrol said.

Troopers said that a northbound 2013 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Tatum Makenzie, 21, of Vancouver failed to slow for traffic and struck the Toyota.

Investigators at the time said that inattention caused the crash and cited Makenzie for speeding. State Patrol spokesman Will Finn did not immediately know whether the fatality would result in additional charges.
