Prep highlights: Columbia River girls soccer team wins with team effort

A team effort carried the Columbia River girls soccer team to a 2A Greater St. Helens League win over Woodland.

The Cheiftains won 5-1 with nine different players contributing a goal or an assists.

Goals were scored by Sophia Skimas, Sophie Landers, Ava Greer, Sarah Givvens and Ellie Walker. Assists came from Hannah Larson, Katie Lee, Shalece Easley and Sophia Keenan.

Stars of the day

• Lexi Dixson, Battle Ground girls soccer, scored an unassisted goal late in overtime as the Tigers beat Heritage 1-0 in their 4A GSHL opener.

• Drew Weber, Fort Vancouver boys cross country, earned his first varsity meet win, finishing in 13:10 for 4,000 meters against Prairie.

• Hannah Kneeshaw, Prairie girls cross country, beat Emily Phelps by five seconds to win in 14:26 (4,000 meters) in a win over Fort Vancouver.

• Serena Bartley, Ridgefield volleyball, had 15 kills, five digs and two blocks in a win over Mark Morris.

• Jarad McKinney, Union boys cross country, won a four-team meet at Pacific Park in 16:41.

• Lizzye Rybalka, Battle Ground girls cross country, won a four-team meet at Pacific Park in 19:18.

• Ja’Vonne Williams, Evergreen volleyball, had 14 kills, 11 digs and six aces in a loss to Mountain View.

• Maddie Stimmel, La Center volleyball, had 13 digs and nine kills in a league-opening win over Stevenson.

• Hannah Lord, Heritage volleyball, had 23 kills in a loss to Skyview.

• Annika Farley, Ridgefield girls soccer, had two goals in a 6-1 win over Mark Morris.

• Missica Derhalli, Seton Catholic girls soccer, had two goals and one assists in a win over Castle Rock.

• Zoe McBride, Prairie volleyball, had 12 kills, eight digs and two aces in a win over Fort Vancouver.

• Lauren Gehrmann, Union volleyball, had 13 kills and nine digs as the Titans won their league opener over Battle Ground.

• Brianna Clark, King’s Way Christian volleyball, had 38 assists and 14 digs in a five-set loss to Castle Rock.

• Abby Wilmington, Columbia River volleyball, had 24 kills and 6 blocks in a win over Woodland.

• Bailey Crawford, Seton Catholic volleyball, had 12 kills and 14 digs in a sweep against Columbia White Salmon.

• Isabelle Morales, Union girls soccer, scored twice with assists from Maddie Goss including the winner in the final minutes for a 2-1 win over Skyview.

• Emma Cox, Mountain View girls soccer, scored both goals in the Thunder’s 2-0 win over Evergreen.

• Hannah Eakins, Washougal girls soccer, had two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over Hudson’s Bay.

• Elise Schey, King’s Way Christian girls soccer, had two goals and one assist in a 7-0 win over Stevenson.
