A Vancouver teen was struck in the head and robbed of his groceries and cellphone early Sunday.

The 16-year-old boy was walking home from Winco, 2101 N.E. Andresen Road, at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when two teenage boys ran toward him, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

The boy was struck in the back of the head by either a metal pipe or wrench, and the assailants stole the boy’s phone and food before fleeing, Kapp said. The victim’s mother took the boy to an area hospital.

The two teenage suspects — described as Hispanic and between the age of 16 and 18 years old, wearing darker plaid shirts and jeans — were not located, Kapp said.

Officers are investigating the incident as a robbery. Anyone with information can contact the agency’s tipline at 360-487-7399.
