Winterhawks top Kelowna in Game 3, 4-2

Rockets lead playoff series 2-1

The Portland Winterhawks scored three unanswered goals in the second period and came away with a 4-2 win over Kelowna in Game 3 of the Western Hockey League Western Conference semifinal playoff series on Tuesday at the Memorial Coliseum.

Kelowna leads the best-of-seven series 2-1 with Game 4 at Portland on Wednesday (7 p.m. at the Coliseum), and now a Game 5 back in Kelowna on Friday.

Joachim Blichfeld broke a 1-1 tie with the first goal of the second period. Caleb Jones and Skyler McKenzie each scored later in the period for a 4-1 advantage. McKenzie’s goal was short-handed.

Evan Weinger had the first goal of the game for Portland.

Portland goalie Cole Kehler, the first star of the game, made 28 saves on 30 shots.

Both teams had 30 shots on goal.
