Ridgefield — Shelagh and Peter Kaseburg were in need of a new mailbox and looking for inspiration.

They found it when they went to a friend’s house, who transformed an old planter into a barbecue. Shelagh Kaseburg asked her husband, an engineer, if he could do something similar for their new mailbox, and he got to work.

It took him a few weeks, but once he was done, the couple had a 5-foot-tall brick planter with a mailbox built into it. Shelagh Kaseburg said she changes up the plants seasonally, and she currently has about 200 tulips in there.

“People come by all the time,” she said. “My neighbor said it’s a hoot watching people stop and take pictures of it.”
